First place for hospital insurance best buys

Each year a leading independent consumer magazine compares over 4,300 hospital policies from the leading private health insurance funds. The magazine performs an analysis of price, conditions, restrictions and benefits, and selects the Hospital Insurance 'Best Buys'

For the third year in a row the Police & Nurses Health Plan* has been awarded the most Hospital Insurance 'Best Buys' overall.

Making your online tax return even easier

Police & Nurses is pleased to offer our members the e-tax service again this year.

e-tax is an initiative that assists members to complete their online tax returns quickly and easily.
If you wish to do your tax return online via the Australian Tax Office’s (ATO) e-tax website, you can have the relevant details from all your Police & Nurses accounts (such as interest and fees) automatically calculated and populated into the correct field of your return.  This provides a number of benefits, namely:

        • accuracy of information and calculations
        • ease of tracking down past statements
        • no auditing from the ATO on the information that has been supplied through this validated method.

The ATO’s e-tax for the financial year ending 30 June 2008 should be available for completion from late July by going to: www.ato.gov.au and click the e-Tax option.

        Protect yourself from scams

There are a number of email scams circulating at the moment and we would like to remind members about the importance of being aware of fraud and taking an active role in fraud prevention.
Our security pages have tips on protecting your personal information and home computer.
Being aware of common types of fraud and scams can often be the best defence!
Typical signs of a scam include:

        • An offer that comes out of the blue
        • A guaranteed quick and easy way to make money
        • Promises of low effort and no risk involved
        • A request for personal information (e.g. banking details)
        • Sounds too good to be true

A good source of information about current scams is the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's Scamwatch website.

If you suspect that you have encountered a scam please contact Police & Nurses on 13 25 77. It is important to take an active role in preventing and combating fraud.
