Community

At Police & Nurses we consider it important to help support the community we live in and one way we do this is through our sponsorship program. Among the organisations and community groups we support are:

2009 Police Officer of the Year Award

Mullewa Police Station's Senior Constable Tam McKeown (pictured below) is the winner of the 2009 WA Police Officer of the Year award.

Police & Nurses is proud to sponsor this award, which recognises the efforts of outstanding police officers in our community. Click here to find out more about the award and how to nominate a police officer who you think has excelled at their job.

Variety Club WA

Variety WA

Police & Nurses is proud to be a corporate sponsor of Variety WA. Variety helps local children who need it the most, from overcoming illness, to getting mobile again, or just making life a little happier. Variety was founded by the entertainment industry, but its heart is in the community where it now serves to enrich the lives of Western Australian children in need. Since starting in WA in 1980, Variety has raised more than $20 million.

Variety programs include:

Caring for kids. Providing essential medical and care equipment for families at home and for other organisations, like Princess Margaret Hospital and the Speech & Hearing Centre.

Future kids. Helping kids who are disadvantaged or have special needs to fulfil their dreams and reach their potential.

Freedom. Enabling children with physical disabilities to participate in activities alongside their families by providing wheelchairs, custom tricycles, walking frames and more.

For more information on volunteering or donating visit Variety WA.

RSPCA Million Paws Walk

2010 RSPCA Million Paws Walk

Police & Nurses is a gold sponsor of the RSPCA Million Paws Walk. The last event was  held on Sunday 16 May 2010 at Sir James Mitchell Park in South Perth and saw record crowds turn out to celebrate pet ownership. Police & Nurses recognise the vital role the RSPCA plays in animal welfare in Western Australia.

Crime Stoppers WA

Through the support of Police & Nurses and other sponsors, Crime Stoppers is able to assist thousands of Western Australians every year, through helping to solve crimes and seek missing persons. Thanks to Crime Stoppers there is now a far greater chance of criminals being exposed by people who previously would not contact police, due to fear of becoming involved, or in some cases a genuine fear of retaliation.

Police & Nurses is proud to be a major sponsor of Crime Stoppers WA.

"It is pleasing to know that the Crime Stoppers program in WA is the strongest in Australia and also recognised as a world leader. This has occurred for a number of reasons; support from good corporate citizens through input in our Crime Stoppers Board, corporate sponsorship, media cooperation and, of course information from the public. We must continue to work in this type of partnership to prevent and detect crime, for crime prevention really is everyone's business."

Karl O'Callaghan, Commissioner of WA Police

Australian Nursing Federation (WA Branch)

The Australian Nursing Federation (ANF) is run by nurses, for nurses. The goal of the ANF is to provide their members with all the protection nurses need, as employees and members of the nursing profession.

The ANF is the only nursing organisation that provides nurses with full professional and industrial representation, as well as a wide range of special member benefits. Police & Nurses has had a strong partnership with the ANF for many years and is proud to support their activities.

We Hand On The Torch - Book Cover

We Hand On The Torch (WA School of Nursing 1975 - 1994)

The Western Australian School of Nursing was a dynamic school situated in Perth WA which trained over 4,000 nurses between 1975 and 1994. This included registered nurses, mental health nurses and nursing aides (later called enrolled nurses). Post basic courses were provided for all three groups. All courses were hospital based, with student nurses gaining experience primarily in Royal Perth Hospital, but also Kalgoorlie, Geraldton, Northam, Bunbury and other metropolitan hospitals.

We Hand On The Torch is a book that documents the history of the WA School of Nursing from 1975 - 1994. The book is based on interviews with former staff and students, and shares some of their thoughts and feelings about their time at the school. It also documents the changing history of the school and the nursing profession overall.

The book costs $20 plus postage to purchase and an order form can be obtained by emailing Lorrie Gray - lorriegray07@yahoo.com.au
